These delightful cheese-stuffed savory bites are crispy on the outside and soft and cheesy on the inside. Perfect for a snack or a side dish, they’re easy to make and can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Whether you’re serving them for a casual dinner or a party, these cheese-filled bites will surely be a hit.
Ingredients (Makes about 8 pieces):
250g mozzarella cheese (or cheese of your choice)
2 cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version)
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for dough)
1 egg
100ml warm water (or milk)
2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
Optional: sesame seeds or garlic powder for topping
Instructions:
Prepare the Cheese Filling:
Cut the mozzarella cheese into small cubes or strips. Set aside.
Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add the egg, vegetable oil, and warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour, but be careful not to overdo it.
Shape the Bites:
Divide the dough into small balls, around the size of a golf ball.
Flatten each ball into a small disc, then place a cube or strip of cheese in the center.
Gently fold the dough around the cheese and seal it completely, making sure the cheese is fully encased in the dough.
Fry the Savory Bites:
Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Once the butter is melted and hot, add the cheese-stuffed dough bites to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd them.
Fry the bites for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Once fried, remove the savory bites from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or garlic powder for added flavor.
Serve hot, and enjoy!
Tips:
For extra flavor, you can add herbs such as oregano or thyme to the dough.
Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar, gouda, or even cream cheese, for a variation of flavors.
These can also be baked in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes if you prefer a healthier version.
